Curro talent takes a bow on the Anthem project stage

Curro Holdings, South Africa’s largest independent school operator, is proud to announce their participation in the official Anthem project, a News24 initiative that aims to bring South Africans together through the national anthem.

Performed by Curro’s very own performing arts talent who recently delivered the brand’s national #Currage Concert, the cast’s video rendition of the anthem is set to move hearts around the country.

Arranged by world-class musical director, Melissa van der Spuy, the interpretation of the anthem boasts a mashup of the official national anthem with a few iconic South African songs that comment on the struggle for freedom. “The Anthem project’s task was to create a video that demonstrates national pride, displays a sense of Ubuntu, shows creativity, and inspires the nation… I think we’ve successfully achieved that with our anthem arrangement,” says Hennie van Greunen, co-director of Curro Create, Curro Holdings’ national creative component.

In an effort to preach the spirit of Ubuntu, one of the entry requirements for the project entails entrants identifying a charity partner – to whom the winning prize funds will be allocated. The #Currage Concert cast are proud to announce their partnership with the Reach For A Dream Foundation. “Having clear synergy with the foundation, our #Currage Concert learners really felt that because they have been privileged to realise their dreams on stage, their wish would be to partner with a charity that helps to fulfil the dreams of those children who face massive challenges in their day-to-day lives,” says Marí Lategan, Head of Marketing and Communications at Curro Holdings.

The project’s talent comprises the 21 members from the #Currage Concert cast who were identified as top performing arts learners by Curro Create, the brand’s creative initiative that aims to develop creativity among learners across various arts disciplines. The initiative is spearheaded by director/playwright Hennie van Greunen and actor/musician/television presenter Pedro Kruger.

Armed with a power-cast, Van der Spuy, Van Greunen and Kruger worked tirelessly for six-weeks to bring the #Currage Concert to life. Upon completion and submission of the Anthem project to News24, the project serves as the #Currage Concert cast’s gift to the nation as Curro Create celebrates the conclusion of their first wildly successful national creative adventure. “We’re very proud to be part of this great anthem initiative; and it’s always a pleasure seeing our learners flourish into leaders, be it through academics, sport, or the performing arts,” says Lategan.

Curro’s Anthem project cast hopes for their video to reach and inspire as many South Africans as possible. “When we live in an age where negative news dominates South Africa’s landscape, this project is the perfect remedy to make South Africans feel part of a collective family,” says Van Greunen.
