King sized thrills at this year’s King of the Whip Contest at Montecasino

The 2020 King of the Whip – Best Whip Contest, presented by Pringles, powered by Motul and in association with Monster Energy and PlayStation is coming to its new home at Montecasino on Saturday 18 April 2020.

This awesome adrenaline-fueled event features death-defying manoeuvres from top local and international Motocross and Freestyle Motocross riders. It’s a fun-filled day out for the entire family, although parents might want to tell their kids “don’t try this at home”!

That’s because a “whip” is one of the most spectacular stunts that can be performed on a motorcycle. It involves highly skilled riders taking off from a ramp, and “whipping” the rear of the bike from side to side. After all the qualifying rounds and exciting final, the rider that performs the biggest whip will be crowned the winner on the night.

Fans can also look forward to gnarly tricks being performed during the Best Trick segment. These will include the likes of the “Rock-Solid”, “Tsunami” and “Switchblade” as well as backflip variations like the “Backflip Superman”. All tricks will show off the exceptional skills these riders possess and will have the audience on their feet whooping and applauding energetically.

Doors will open at 2pm, with the qualifying jam session rounds beginning at 4pm. The semi-finals and final will take place after nightfall, under the lights and to the accompaniment of awesome pyrotechnics.

“We’re excited to once again be sponsoring the King of the Whip event”, confirmed Mercia Jansen, Motul Area Manager for Southern and Eastern Africa. “It’s a thrilling way to introduce new fans to motorsports, and it shows what can be achieved when riders and machines are honed to perfection through endless hours of dedication and perseverance”.

Tickets for the 2020 King of the Whip are already on sale from Quicket and selling fast – so fans are advised to get cracking! They’re priced at just R50 (standing) or R80 (grandstand seating), making it an affordable day out for the family. A wide range of snacks and drinks will also be on sale during the event.

“Montecasino is the perfect arena for the 2020 King of the Whip showdown, and the fact that we’ve moved up to the big league and taken over this awesome venue for the day shows just how much this event has grown”, commented event organiser, Ryan van der Spuy. Thanks to our sponsors, fans now have a chance to watch some of the best riders in the world show off their skills”, he added.

The status of the event is underlined by the rollcall of over 20 top riders who have confirmed for this year. International Motocross Freeride star Patrick Evans, from the USA, will be at 2020 King of the Whip and also confirmed are top SA Motocross and Freestyle Motocross riders – Scotty Billett (FMX and last year’s King of the Whip winner), David Goosen (MX), Maddy Malan (MX), Nick de Wit (FMX), Dallan Goldman (FMX) including others.
