View or join a live gaming stream to support 300 at-risk families during lockdown

South African gaming platform, Gaming Den ZA, is inviting gamers to view or participate in a PC gaming stream this weekend, 25 and 26 April, in aid of Christel House South Africa, a unique non-profit school based in Ottery, Cape Town.

Viewers of the live stream gaming session will be encouraged to donate to Christel House SA to help feed students and their families affected by the Covid-19 crisis during the lockdown. Streamers can also dare gamers to do silly actions after donating. Two online shopping vouchers are also up for grabs to anyone who donates.

Christel House SA serves 1000 students who come from twenty extremely impoverished communities on the Cape Flats. In light of the devastating impact of Covid-19, the charity has identified 300 of its most at-risk families to feed and support during and after the national lockdown.

Megan Sonnenberg, Public Relations Officer at Christel House, said, “Many of our families have lost their only means of income due to the lockdown and are in desperate need of food and necessities to survive the next few months. We have a made a commitment to support these vulnerable families with a weekly stipend until the end of September to purchase basic food supplies and for basic academic support.”

Gaming Den ZA develops both a sustainable support structure for registered local charities and non-profit organisations as well as supporting and bringing awareness to a growing South African gaming community.

“The team at Gaming Den ZA believes that the only way to get through this Covid-19 crisis is to help those who are really in need. We are doing it through what we as seven ordinary people love doing, “button mashing” or gaming, for the greater good of Christel House’s students and their families,” said Caitlin Singh, one of the founders of Gaming Den ZA.

The event invites novice and experienced gamers to view or participate, with a variety of games being played from Brawhalla and, which are free to play, to Dauntless and World War Z, which are paid for.
